Waipapa marae poukai to be held at Mōkai Kāinga Marae

Waipapa marae will celebrate their poukai this year with Mōkai Kāinga after the marae was closed to rebuild new toilets, install fire alarms and relocate the drainage and sewage systems from the marae to the front carpark.

Waipapa Trust incumbent chair, Hone Edwards and chairperson elect, Cathrine Holland welcomed King Tūheitia’s announcement today at the Ngāti Wairere poukai, Hukanui marae, Gordonton.

Cathrine reinforces the gratitude of the trust.

“Our aroha goes out to Uncle Nick and our whānau at Mōkai Kāinga who have opened up the marae to allow us all to celebrate our poukai together.  Waipapa is no exception when it comes to infrastructure challenges.  We all have them and we’re grateful to our whanaunga at a time when all marae are having to deal with major health and safety challenges especially with the COVID 19 pandemic,” she said.
