Te Whakakitenga Elections have been delayed
Nominations have been postponed.
Te Whakakitenga Elections have been delayed following an official announcement by the chair of Whakakitenga, Parekāwhia McLean.
Triennial Special Meeting – Saturday, 26 September 2020
McLeans says September 2020 was supposed to mark the start of a new term for Te Whakakitenga. She says current Te Whakakitenga members and Marae Committee will be familiar with the process to elect Te Whakakitenga members in time for the new term to begin in September.
“There is usually at least a six month lead into the Triennial Special Meeting. However, given the lockdown and the inability for marae to gather, we have decided to defer the elections until January 2021. This decision was not made lightly and is based on the Government’s actions to stem the spread of Covid-19,” McLean says.
A new election date for Waipapa candidates will be announced later in the year.
