by Waipapa Marae Trust

It is with deep sadness that the Waipapa Marae Trust mournfully acknowledge the passing of Anthony Dale Kahaki, Director of Brymer Group who built our whare kai, Te Maru o Hikairo in 2018 and opened at the poukai the following year by King Tuheitia.

Project Manager Kruger Wetere:

"We began the demolition of the old wharekai in July 2018.

This was a 10-month build from start to finish where the biggest challenge was getting resources and building capability out to the Kāwhia.  Add to the challenge of sub-contractor and procurement timing, the winter weather was also an obstacle for the builders.  Dale and his team exceeded our expectations and delivered our build on time and under budget, whilst showcasing their understanding of marae development. Their attention to detail and commitment to efficiency were evident in every aspect of the project. The team's proactive approach ensured that potential issues were addressed before they could impact the timeline or cost.

I remember the day we brought out the trustees and kaumātua for a guided walk through the building complex as Dale allayed all fears of getting the project over the line at a total cost of $975,297.00.  It was a privilege to work alongside Dale during the build of Te Maru which remains a huge legacy of his building management skills.  He will be sadly missed at Waipapa."

The funeral service for Dale will be held on Sunday, 18 August 2024   at Saint Paul's Collegiate, 77 Hukanui Road, Hamilton at 11 am
