New faces for Waipapa at Te Whakakitenga
by Waipapa Marae Trust
Two new faces have been elected to represent Waipapa Marae at Te Whakakitenga for the next three-year term. Moka Apiti, former chair of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Hikairo romped home with a considerable majority and 27-year-old Tiriana Anderson, the youngest of 6 nominations scraped home to take the second seat, one vote ahead of incumbent Niketi Toataua who will be the designated alternate in the event Moka and/or Tiriana are unable to attend official meetings for Te Whakakitenga.
"I am honoured and grateful to be offered this position on behalf of Waipapa Marae to serve on Te Whakakitenga. I will do my best to uphold our values and traditions, and to build on the work of those who have gone before me. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Brendon and Niketi's contributions and commit to working hard to continue their legacy," says Moka.
The Waipapa Marae Trust endorses the effort and input from Brendon and Niketi and thanks all applicants who stood for Te Whakakitenga elections this year including our kaumātua Te Papi Cunningham and Mark Seymour.
