It is with deep sadness that the Waipapa Marae Trust mournfully acknowledge the passing of Anthony Dale Kahaki, Director of Brymer Group who built our whare kai, Te Maru o Hikairo in 2018 and opened at the poukai by King Tuheitia in 2019.

Waipapa beneficiaries attending the first of a series of Hui a-Iwi at the Marae on Sunday 25 March 2024, decided a small collection of photos would be displayed at the Poukai this year inside the wharenui, rather than returning the entire gallery of photos to Ngā Taiwhakarongorua.
Beneficiaries decided the photo selection for the poukai would be displayed alongside the Kawenata to King Tuheitia and the mere pounamu gifted by the Tauwhare family to the late Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu as a taonga for the Marae.

SH31, the road to Kāwhia, will be closed on Thursday 7 March 2024 for road repairs to the under-slip west of Tirohanga Kāwhia the week before the poukai.
The serious damage above was caused at the beginning of last year when Cyclone Gabrielle ripped through the north island bringing widespread flooding and major damage to the roads.
Next week, the old seal needs to be dug out on the site west of the Kawhia lookout on Thursday. The road will be closed from 8 am - 5 pm but will reopen for an hour as a single lane between 12 noon and 1 pm.

Last year the photos of our tūpuna and family members were taken down from the walls of Ngā Taiwhakarongorua as part of the upgrade to the wharenui and the ablution blocks. This involved building a new undercover doorway access to the toilets and showers.
