The Heritage & Identity Team has been working with Water Safety NZ to co-design a Kairuku Programme for Marae. All Marae take pride in being able to provide their signature dishes at important events such as Poukai. A range of research acknowledges the importance of traditional kai in improving the nutritional health of kaumaatua. 

Our poukai is only 4 weeks away as a new record number of 810 new community cases of COVID are reported in New Zealand today.  The figure today has almost doubled on the last reported number of cases. Our builders continue with the new ablution block in Taku Hiahia, the installation of fire emergency equipment in the wharenui as well as the new drainage and sewerage systems for the marae. While King Tuheitia cancelled poukai in February, we're on standby for his decision about poukai in March.

In the meantime, let's take a moment to reflect on the legacy Uncle Meto left us in this interview with Te Ao - Māori News prior to the opening of our wharekai, Te Maru o Hikairo in 2019.
