In November of last year 2021, Ngaa Marae o Kaawhia Moana released a health promotion campaign PROTECT WHANAU, GET THE VAX that was firstly promoted around Kaawhia Moana, then across the Waikato region and then down through the North Island and across Cook Strait to the southernmost reaches of the South Island.

Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII has approved the request of all Poukai Marae in March to be cancelled or continue with a small whaanau day or online presentation to honour the kaupapa. The King has also cancelled this year's Royal Regatta, held at Turangawaewae Marae.
